Wapping Fox at night

Wapping Fox at night

Thanks to resident Jim Herd we now have a night shot of the Wapping Fox, sitting in the snow!

Caught on the “up” ramp at the Hermitage Waterside development in Wapping.

The photo was taken late Monday night on the corner of Thomas Moore Street and Stockholm Way.

Prowling for the Wapping Fox

We asked Jim how he managed to catch the Wapping Fox on camera and he told us:

I was with a friend and he spotted the fox first. I didn’t manage to get my camera out in time as someone walked by and wouldn’t stop when I asked him to.

I then spotted a small shadow on the ramp of my development out of the corner of my eye. I thought straightaway that it was the fox and tried to approach it to get a shot but then someone else turned up and scared it off! I followed it into the courtyard of my development, Hermitage Waterside and watched it run along the side of the pond.

It’s sad to learn the fox was injured, holding its rear paw off the ground and running three-legged. The RSPCA were contacted but unless the fox can be caught they’re unable to help, so we hope it heals itself.

Back in November, Mark Baynes shared his daytime Wapping Fox story with us and we’re wondering if it’s the same one or the other in a pair? When we showed him Jim’s picture, his reaction: “OOOH! Nice shot!”

Have you spotted the Wapping Fox in E1W?

Spotted her twice very late in the evening of 21 Oct 2011 inside New Crane Wharf.  She went up the ramp, sniffed around then back out again. An hour later seen crossing Wapping High street and disappeared up Hilliard’s Court.

Caught on camera in the last week – photos from Twitter late night at Tobacco Dock @WappingAaron http://twitpic.com/3kd2d7 and early morning by @EltonMouna http://twitpic.com/3l3sh3.

Thanks for sharing them and well caught! We reckon Jim and Mark have the best night and day shots so far…but keep your eyes peeled (and camera to hand) as they seem to be getting bolder!

OOOH! NIce shot! And I don’t say that often! Well done Jim! I took a couple of shots of a the Wapping Fox (well, there at least two actually) a few weeks back at night in Wapping Gardens but they were not as good as this. Mainly because I wasn’t near enough :) I see foxes so often when i am out late at night / early morning that I am beginning to wonder if there are just two or possibly more?

I would be interested to here from anyone else who has seen the Wapping Fox wandering around his (or her) territory? I know someone mentioned they have been seen near Prusom’s Island. Anywhere else?
