St Jude’s storm uproots KEMP tree and closes Wapping Overground

St Jude’s storm uproots KEMP tree and closes Wapping Overground

Wapping was hit by howling winds in the early hours this morning, 28 October 2013 which uprooted a large mature tree in King Edward Memorial Park (KEMP).

Wapping Overground station was closed until 9am today as part of the London Overground closure but the local 100 and D3 busses ran a near normal service.

A branch from a tree in Wapping Rose Gardens fell and landed on Wapping High Street whilst another large branch fell in Wapping Woods, leaving some pavements covered in debris.

Here are some pictures from Wapping in the aftermath of the St Jude’s storm damage this morning.

It’s so very sad that a mature tree has been lost in King Edward Memorial Park, but given what we’re seeing from other parts of London and across the UK, Wapping’s mostly survived St Jude’s storm fairly well.

The Wapping joggers are still jogging, but do take care as there are still many branches and obstacles on some pavements.

A few trees down on the highway too up near the Tower.

Better nature fells a tree than Thames Water I suppose.
