Ride London cycle event road closures for Wapping – 4th August

Ride London cycle event road closures for Wapping – 4th August

The Prudential RideLondon cycling festival takes place this weekend and Wapping will be significantly affected by road closures and diversions from 5am on Sunday 4th August when the Highway will be closed.

Many roads in central London and the City up to Tower Hill will be closed on Saturday 5th August and will affect access to Wapping from the west.

There are no planned rail, underground or overground closures in Tower Hamlets this weekend, so where possible we are advised to use public transport – or walk or cycle.

Saturday 3rd August cycling events and road closures

On Saturday more than 50,000 cyclists will take to two wheels for a traffic-free ride around central London for the RideLondon FreeCycle. The RideLondon Grand Prix will take place on roads in and around St James’s Park.

Tower Hill will be closed on Saturday, but most of the road closures on the 3rd August appear to affect the City and central London.

Road closures on Sunday 4th August in Wapping

Below is an extract from the Tower Hamlets road closures map, which shows the closures and diversions that will affect Wapping on Sunday 4th August. They are extensive and effectively cut Wapping off, so please plan ahead.

Roads will begin closing at 5am on Sunday and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so – estimated at mid afternoon for the Wapping area.

About the RideLondon cycling festival

The Prudential RideLondon cycling festival aims to generate sustainable, long-term economic benefit to London and the UK.

There are many spectating opportunities and fun activities taking place throughout the weekend across London, so make the best of it if you can. For more information about the event please visit www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk.

This is the first year of the event but it is aiming to raise huge amounts of money for good causes and bring amateur and professional cyclists together, with some healthy competition and fun thrown in.

We wish everyone taking part the best of luck, especially with their fundraising so give them a good cheer as they pass Wapping on Sunday.
