Photo of the week: shaggy drain on Wapping beach

We love this photo of an old sewer outfall, sparkling in the sunshine on Wapping beach by Chris.

Taken on the Thames foreshore at low tide, the weed covered drain can be found just under the flight of stairs at Wapping Old Stairs, by the Town of Ramsgate pub.

Chris says “I think I loved the way the algae flows down over the drain and is trying it’s best to reclaim it”.

Starting today we’ll feature a Wapping photo each week that shows off something special about E1W – it’s places, people or daily life. Please add your lovely photos of Wapping in the What’s in Wapping Flickr pool or tweet them to us @WappingLondon so we can share them with Wapping.

Shaggy Drain in Wapping

Visiting Wapping’s foreshore and beach on the River Thames

Wapping beach is such a lovely place for a stroll or to go mudlarking at low tide. Wellies are recommended though, as it can get very muddy and slippery – take care and remember that the tide can come in extremely fast.

Times and tides vary daily, so it’s worth checking the tide tables before going – please see the 2012 tide tables on the Port of London Authority website for details of high and low tides.

We hope you enjoy Wapping’s lovely beaches and thanks again to Chris for our first Wapping photo of the week.
