Hermitage Moorings Open Weekend – 29th & 30th March

Hermitage Moorings in Wapping are holding a free open weekend this Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th March from 10am to 4pm.

Discover how the close knit community at Hermitage Moorings live, climb onboard Volharding, one of the historic vessels, try your hand at knot tying, and enjoy homemade cakes and treats in the Pier House cafe.

Visitors are invited to get an up close look at the boats, usually closed to the public. Each boat has a plaque detailing its history – one was designed for a Dutch princess, others involved in the war, and one part of the Ships Opera from last year’s Thames Festival.

Residents will be on hand to answer questions like: Does it move? Do you get sea sick? Do you have electricity? One boat will be open to the public so you can see what its like inside.

When you’ve finished exploring the boats, relax in the Pier House Cafe, with views of Tower Bridge, try your hand at knot tying or test your knowledge with an activity sheet.

Hermitage Moorings in Wapping was created by a small, dedicated community over the course of about 6 years and is the first development of its kind on the River Thames for more than a generation.
