Gloriana passes Tower Bridge and arrives at HMS President for Lord Mayor’s Show 2013 – photos

At 9:25am last Saturday 9th November, QRB Gloriana and the Lord Mayor’s flotilla passed under Tower Bridge on the River Thames before arriving at HMS President in Wapping where the new Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Fiona Woolf disembarked.

Gloriana travelled down the River Thames in bright autumn sunshine this year, with an accompanying procession of 24 traditional Thames boats from London’s livery companies and port authorities.

A traditional Thames barge herself, QRB Gloriana became famous during the Royal Jubilee celebrations and is rowed by eighteen oarsmen.

After arriving at HMS President, the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Fiona Woolf inspected a guard of honour and partook a tot of rum in a traditional naval ceremony before making her way by car to the Guildhall.

Here are some photos from last Saturday showing Alderman Fiona Woolf travelling on Gloriana as she passed under Tower Bridge and arrived at HMS President near St Katharine Docks in Wapping for the 2013 Lord Mayor’s Show. And a couple of fireworks from the evening, which we loved.

We didn’t catch the state coach at the Lord Mayor’s Show this year, but here is a photo we took of Alderman Fiona Woolf during the rehearsal event in the early hours of the morning on 6 November. More pictures and details can be seen on IanVisits blog here.

The Lord Mayor’s Show 2013 concluded with fireworks over the River Thames this year and what a beautiful sight they were.
