Get your dog microchipped free in Wapping

This Wednesday, 12th February from 10am to 2pm dog owners can get their dogs microchipped for free on Wapping Green (corner of Watts Street and Wapping Lane).

The event is being run by the Dogs Trust and Tower Hamlets Council who also want to remind dog owners that from 6th April 2016 it will be compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped.

Microchipping means a dog’s owner can be quickly and easily traced, ensuring that if the dog becomes lost (or is stolen) it is more likely to be returned safe and sound.

There is no need to make an appointment, just turn up on Wapping Green between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 12th February.

Additional dates are also on offer in Tower Hamlets, also 10am to 2pm for anyone not able to make the Wapping event:

  • Monday 17th February in Mile End Park (by the dog gym at the end of Copperfield Road); and
  • Tuesday 25th February in Millwall Park (near the entrance of Manchester Road)

Only dogs can be chipped at the event (not cats, or even Wapping Squirrel). The offer is open to dog owners aged 18 and over and is subject to availability and resources of the charity.

The Dogs Trust strongly advises that puppies being chipped are fully vaccinated beforehand and reserve the right to ask for proof of vaccination.

For more information contact the Dogs Trust on 020 7837 0006 or visit www.chipmydog.org.uk. Tower Hamlets Council animal Warden Service can be contacted on 020 7364 5008.
