Demolition & redevelopment of former St Patrick’s school and social club buildings – public exhibition

Demolition & redevelopment of former St Patrick’s school and social club buildings – public exhibition

A public exhibition will take place in Wapping this Friday 27th and Saturday 28th September 2013 to present proposals about the demolition and redevelopment of two buildings in Dundee Street, Wapping: the former St Patrick’s RC Primary School and the St Patrick’s Social Club.

The proposals will form the basis of a planning application by current owners, the Westminster Roman Catholic Diocese Trustee, who are also owners of St Patrick’s church.

All Wapping residents are invited to attend, view the proposals, speak to representatives from the design team and ask questions about the plans.

We understand that the proposals for the new developments include affordable housing, some for retired clergy, new parish rooms and a community hall for St Patrick’s and some residential flats, which would help to subsidise the affordable housing. The owners plan to run both sites as a not for profit development.

The two buildings in Dundee Street were built c1900, are not listed and are in a state of disrepair. In view of this, the cost and challenges in converting buildings of this age, especially for use by elderly residents, the owners propose to demolish and redevelop the sites rather than renovate them.

The former St Patrick’s Social Club

The former St Patrick’s Social Club is located half way down on the east side of Dundee Street, just off Wapping High Street:

The former St Patrick’s RC Primary School

The former RC Primary School is located on the west of Dundee Street and accessible via a gate on Dundee Street, or via a path next to the church on Greenbank. The school building faces back onto Dundee Court and Pierhead Wharf in Wapping High Street.

Public exhibition on St Patrick’s redevelopments – 27th and 28th September

The public exhibition will take place from 3pm to 8pm on Friday 27th September and from 10am to 1pm on Saturday 28th September on the ground floor of St Patrick’s RC Primary School, which can be accessed via the side of St Patrick’s church in Greenbank, just off Wapping High Street near the Turk’s Head cafe.

Designers, planners and architects, Scott Brownrigg will attend on both days and be available to answer questions and we will post a link to their exhibition boards and share them here as soon as they are available for for anyone who can’t make it.

Please share this information with your Wapping friends and neighbours and encourage them to go along if they can as this is an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback before the formal planning application is submitted to Tower Hamlets Council.

Just got back from this consultation and wanted to say thanks to those who helped me get into the building in my wheelchair. Also to Chris for his clear explanation of the proposed development . It struck me as very much in keeping with the buildings around it. Do make time to get along if you can.
