Bottega Wapping restaurant in Metropolitan Wharf opens 5th August

Bottega Wapping restaurant in Metropolitan Wharf opens 5th August

A new restaurant, wine bar and deli called ‘Bottega Wapping’ opens in Metropolitan Wharf on Monday 5th August.

Offering everything from a lazy coffee with friends to a evening feast and food from the counter, the entire menu, is also available to take away.

Wine features strongly throughout, with an extensive and largely Italian list available by the glass or bottle, from simple, quality house wines to more unusual vintage gems and a sommelier will be on hand to help choose.

A touch of theatre is promised and chefs will make fresh pasta and bread in front of their customers at the vast Carrara marble bar.

Bottega Wapping

Building on the success of Bottega Prelibato, an award-winning and hugely popular Shoreditch restaurant, Bottega Wapping has a much larger space and aims to create a neighbourhood hub in Wapping.

Drawing upon a classically Italian formula, Bottega Wapping will be all about the food and the people.

Located on the ground floor in beautiful Grade 2 listed Metropolitan Wharf (where we took a look inside a few months ago), the Bottega team have created a restaurant interior inspired by historical Italian farmers’ markets, particularly the famous Campo de’ Fiori in their home town of Rome.

Metropolitan Wharf

Grade 2 listed Metropolitan Wharf in Wapping Wall has been beautifully restored both inside and outside

The food will be traditional Italian with a few modern surprises: elegant small plates such as scallops with candied fennel, Roman fried specialities, heartier dishes including homemade pappardelle with white ragu and wild mushrooms and sharing platters of oozing burrata and Parma ham. For those who still have space, a dessert list ranges from a classic tiramisu to a rhubarb and strawberry soup with puff pastry and Chantilly.

As well as the main restaurant section, deli and bar, there will be a lounge with sofas and an area available for private hire.

Bottega Wapping Opening Hours (from 5th August *)

Bottega Wapping opens from 9am for coffee, patisserie, eggs and The Full Italian, a Mediterranean take on the great English breakfast. At lunchtime, in addition to a full menu, a selection of sandwiches and pizzette will be available at the counter.

(*) Please note that opening hours may vary during the first week.

    Hi Bottega Wapping
Thank you. That’s great to know and I will definitely be visiting once you are open.

  • Bottega Wapping

    Hi Mummy Penguin,

We can reassure you that Bottega Wapping
will be entirely accessible for wheelchair users. There is a ramp next
door in the main Metropolitan Wharf reception, and a door at the top of
the ramp then leads directly into Bottega. The restaurant itself is also
    fully equipped for wheelchair access.

Hope this answers any questions, and we very much look forward to seeing you soon.

Sounded so good from the above I took a wheel down there to see for myself. From what I could see it looks like it doesn’t have an accessible entrance for powered wheelchair users. The main entrance has a high step. A step doesn’t have to be barrier if a portable ramp is available. A number of restaurants now have lightweight aluminium ones which the staff can move easily into place.

As they are still working on the place I will do another explore after 5 August in the hope I’m wrong and there will be access either directly or through the main Metropolitan Wharf entrance.

Great to see a new business opening in Wapping, especially Wapping Wall in such a glorious building as Metropolitan Wharf.
